He’s a wonderful, loving dog with a personality that in many ways resembles a German Shepherd (not the size, he is smaller). He is very affectionate, gentle, and loves attention, scratches, and cuddles from people he knows and trusts. At the same time, he can be easily alerted by and reactive to unfamiliar sounds or situations, so he does best with a confident caretaker.
He thrives on structure and routine. Keeping his walks and feeding times consistent helps him feel calm and secure.
He absolutely loves being outdoors — especially running free in a big park or on the beach, exploring, and sniffing everything along the way.
He is highly food-motivated, which makes him enthusiastic around mealtimes and treats, though he can sometimes be a little impatient when food is involved, and another dog is in the same room.
At home, he is generally relaxed and calm. He spends most of his time resting in his bed or on the floor, comming to us for massages in between naps. While he would happily climb onto furniture if allowed, we do not permit this at home.
Because he is naturally alert, unexpected noises such as children screaming outside, car doors slamming, or fireworks may cause him to bark. For this reason, we are only looking for a sitter in a calm and quiet or residential area.
When off leash, he handles seeing and meeting other dogs very well. On leash, however, he can sometimes become reactive and bark at other dogs. In those situations, it is usually best to calmly create distance or change direction to avoid direct interaction.
At home, he lives peacefully with another dog he already knows well. However, for pet sitting, we are looking for a home without cats, or children. id another dog is present, mealtime needs to be given in separate rooms of lesser his frustration.
A quiet and low-stimulation environment helps keep him calm, comfortable, and less reactive during his stay.
Overall, he is a very sweet and rewarding dog who does best with someone patient, structured, and understanding of sensitive and alert dogs.
