Am I insured as a sitter? / Is my sitter insured?

Did you know that many insurance policies aren’t valid when your pet is staying with someone else? To give all our pet sitters, pet owners and dogs ultimate peace of mind, we’ve partnered with one of the largest insurance companies in the Netherlands to make sure that all stays booked and paid for via Petbnb are covered by our extensive public liability insurance and our veterinary costs guarantee, in the unlikely event that something goes wrong.
We can’t help with something we don’t know about so if an incident occurs, we ask both sitters and pet owners to notify us as soon as possible and in any event no later than 24 hours after the incident has occurred by emailing us at hulp@petbnb.nl.

General Liability

When does coverage apply?

General liability relates to claims for bodily injury to a person other than the sitter, dog walker, pet owner, or someone directly related to the pet owner, sitter, or dog walker. This also relates to claims for a pet owner's property damage that occurs as a result of a sitter or dog walker's services. If you have insurance that may cover some or all costs arising from an injury or damage otherwise covered by Petbnb insurance for example the pet sitter’s general liability insurance, you should file a claim under that policy before seeking reimbursement from Petbnb.

What is covered?

  • General liability up to a maximum of €2,500,000 subject to a minimum contribution of €250 by the claimant — so we reimburse only for costs exceeding €250.
  • Injuries to the pet for which the sitter is liable up to a maximum of €2,500 subject to a minimum contribution of €250 by the claimant.

What's not covered?

  • Liability for injuries caused to the pet when it is being taken to or picked up from the sitter
  • Liability for a reduction in the "economic value" of the animal
  • Damage to personal property or to the fixtures and fittings of your house, garden etc

Veterinary Costs Guarantee

When does coverage apply?

Along with our general liability insurance cover, Petbnb provides a guarantee to help cover medical costs for treatment of the pet which are incurred as a result of an injury which occurs during a booking, for which there is no liability. As with our general liability insurance cover if the injured pet already has insurance that may cover some or all costs arising from such an injury for example the pet owner’s health insurance policy for their dog, you should file a claim under that policy before seeking reimbursement from Petbnb.

What is covered?

  • Injuries as a result of a traffic accident.
  • Bone fractures.
  • Injuries or sickness caused by ingesting foreign objects or poisoned food.
  • Injuries resulting from a confrontation with another animal, for example bite marks.

What's not covered?

  • Treatment costs for preventive care, or medical or veterinary bills resulting from an illness or a chronic or pre-existing condition.
  • Preventable conditions such as fleas, ticks, or parasites.
For a complete understanding of the our veterinary costs guarantee, including the full list of conditions, exclusions and limitations, we strongly encourage you to read clause 20 of our Terms and Conditions (currently only in Dutch).
