James will warm up to you very quickly. He gets along easily with people who are friendly toward him. He is both loyal and protective — if needed, he will defend you. James absolutely loves to play. We always say his love language is bringing you his toy — he can do it all day long. At the same time, he’s perfectly happy to relax and nap for hours during the day, and he sleeps through the night without issues. He is comfortable being alone for longer periods, as we trained him for this from a young age. James gets along with most dogs. In fact, his very best friend is a chihuahua — he knows how to adjust his energy and play style to match smaller or more delicate dogs. He can be surprisingly gentle and careful, adapting to the needs of the dog he’s with. Interactions with other males can sometimes be more intense because he has a slightly dominant personality, but he is never aggressive. After spending time together, he usually becomes friends with them. He doesn’t like cats — he was once attacked by one, so please keep that in mind. James likes children, but their unpredictability can make him overly excited. We’ve never had a bad incident, but we stay cautious because he’s a strong dog. His favorite toy is a (football) ball. However, balls can also be a big trigger for overexcitement. When walking past children playing with a ball, keep him close and get his attention to prevent overstimulation. If you love shepherds, you will love James — he’s a sweetheart.
